Dreams in early hours of the morning do come true! Slow-wave activity in both REM and non-REM sleep fulfil one’s cherished dreams; and when a group of oncologists dream together the result is the Bengal Journal of Cancer (BJC) – a Messrs’ Walters, Kluwer, Medknow publication from the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI), West Bengal chapter.

The BJC is an international, blinded peer-reviewed, Open Access (print + online) journal that follows fast-track protocol. The publishers are providing for digital archiving through partnerships with Portico and CLOCKSS. The BJC considers the following manuscript types for publications: original research articles, review articles, case reports and case series, editorials and commentaries, and letters to the editor.

Oncologists need constantly to be on the cutting-edge of new technologies and treatment procedures in order to translate such developments from the bench to the bedside. The West Bengal chapter of AROI aims to bring together oncologists, especially from the eastern part of India, and provide them with an academic platform for publication of their research work. Particularly, those junior and senior residents interested in publishing their clinical research, and medical professionals seeking to enhance their curriculum vitae for departmental promotions, are encouraged to contribute.

The BJC will follow editorial policies as per recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), and for guidance on ethical issues will follow the recommendations of the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE). The editorial board consists of luminaries in the domain of oncology from both India and abroad. Each member of the editorial board is a noted expert in their respective sub-domain. The senior editorial staff, including myself, is dedicated towards achieving and maintaining a standard impact factor for the journal.

The BJC is aimed towards encouraging young oncologists and established practitioners with updates on basic sciences, molecular biology, surgical/medical/radiation/immuno- oncology, and palliative care. Our pledge is to provide the latest information to the busy oncologist as assistance in improving treatment outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients.

Prof. (Dr.) Santanu Pal
